Corvette Cold Air Intake | Halltech Super Bee MF103
We had a chance to play around with the new C6 Corvette Halltech Super Bee MF103 this weekend, and we liked what we saw. While it was not immediately distinguishable form its predecessor the Killer Bee II, there have been some significant improvements to Halltech’s newest LS3 Corvette Cold Air Intake System.
The first thing we noticed was the packaging. The new Super Bee Intake was nicely packed and every thing was exactly where it should be when we opened the box. When we first pulled it out, we could tell there was a significant improvement in the overall build quality. Not that Halltech made bad stuff before, but the new Roto-Molding Polyetholene plastic has a much more substantial feel to it, and made the unit feel rock solid. The next thing we noticed is just how truly massive the cloth filter really is, trust me, this thing is gigantic. It is a typical oil based cloth filter. There was a good amount of oil on the filter and the inside of the plastic, so we decided to wrap it in some news paper and let it sit for a while to get off any access oil. One of the great features of the Halltech Super Bee is the Beehive. In basic terms the Beehive is a large plastic shield that is installed over the top of the radiator to shield the engine heat from the Intake. The next piece we found was the reducer. The Halltech Super Bee has a massive 102.5 mm opening on both ends of the air bridge. While this may be great for those who have a monster build, most will use the reducer to match up with their stock throttle body. Jim Hall and the team at Halltech did their homework with a lot of R&D on this one. My personal favorite feature of the C6 Corvette Super Bee is the 7” MAF extension that is included in every intake system. This allows the MAF to be located farther down stream and greatly straightens the air flow, allowing for a far smoother idle than before.
Installation is fairly straight forward and the directions (do we ever use them) if need are more than adequate to walk a novice mechanic through the installation process. Total installation time was an hour and a half, but we could have done it in 20 minutes if we did not have five other interested parties all trying to lend a hand. The only tools need are in most tool boxes already. A 7mm and 8mm nut driver or long socket is all you will need. If your LS3 Corvette is a 2011 and up, you will need TORX head screw drivers to get at the 5 star safety screws GM has added, but a regular Philips Head Screw Driver will work in a pinch. When you are done, don't just sit back and look at your New C6 Corvette Super Bee Cold Air Intake, just get out and drive because there is no Tune needed when you install this beast, making it one of the best bangs for your buck when it comes to bolt on Corvette Performance Parts
